In our experience, there are very few children that do not flourish in a properly functioning environment. Our accelerated learning concept is suitable for nearly every child and the technique is created to be purposely malleable to the child.
From an outsider's point of view, it may initially appear that way, but it is in fact, structured at every level and students learn independently, in a structured environment.
Early childhood level:
Exterior frameworks are limited by clear-cut ground rules and correct procedures that provide guidelines and shape for two to four-year-olds. By age five, most schools establish a form of official system to gauge students’ progress.
How our children learn:
The curriculum is like a public school but at a more advanced level. Children typically work with a written study strategy for the week. They will have specific tasks and work to complete, and the student determines how long to spend on each and in what order. Beyond these basic, individually tailored assignments, children explore topics specially designed by Montessori, that inspire them and capture their curiosity and creativity, sharing them with their classmates.
We like to think of our assessments as challenges rather than formal evaluations. Students are diligently and carefully observed as they work by our team of educators. Students will have informal and formal exams set by their teachers and children will also be able to demonstrate what they have learned. Students are normally working toward mastery rather than a standard letter grade scheme and parents receive regular progress reports. However, a properly managed school will provide grade equivalents, or better, in a progress report for parents if the child leaves our school system.
